Chanel Causes Clog Comeback
If someone had told me a year ago that clogs would be a big trend for spring 2010 I would no doubt have been sceptical. Clogs bring back the days when I lived in the Netherlands and would see clogs painted with flowers and windmills in every souvenir shop around. Traditionally Dutch rural workers wore the all-wooden shoe as part of protective clothing. The only clogs I’ve even owned were given to me by my classmates when I moved away. They had written lovely messages on them and it was a great gift reminding me of my time in the land of the “cloggies”. But somehow it never occurred to me to put them on my feet.
When the models at Chanel’s spring 2010 runway show came down the catwalk in platform clogs I was convinced. Karl Lagerfeld put on a spectacular countryside fantasy show, and the shoes were no less than fantastic. He created a shoe revolution. Chic clogs fit for fashionistas everywhere. Because Chanel clogs aren’t your typical old wooden clogs, Chanel clogs are chunky, leather, studded, sky-high heels. Easily categorising them as modern killer heels. In shades of tan, pearl, white and black, Chanel clogs are the perfection of the wooden shoe. It’s no wonder Chanel clogs have already been spotted on Alexa Chung’s feet. So get ready, because clogs are the spring 2010 must-have.
Another piece of writing I’ve done as part of the fashion journalism course I’m taking.
I really love the pairs by Steve Madden and Jeffrey Campbell (shown bellow). Great cheaper versions of Chanel Clogs.
What do you think of clogs? Will you wear clogs for spring?
