3.1 Phillip Lim Spring 2012
I still can’t quite believe I was there, in New York, watching Phillip Lim’s Spring 2012 collection come down the runway. I’m a big fan of Phillip Lim’s young, simple and sophisticated aesthetic. It was amazing to see his spring 2012 collection in action on the runway, especially since the collection was all about movement. And the clothes moved beautifully thanks to draped delicate fabrics contrasted with more structured elements.
The collection was inspired by kites and the inspiration translated wonderfully to the collection. Light fabrics such as silk and chiffon moved in a way that brought thoughts of wind and air. References to kites could also be found in the shapes and geometry of the garments; there were panels of fabric, asymmetrical tops, boxy rectangular jackets and dresses with straps similar to kite strings.
The colour palette gave the collection a girly and feminine feel. The range of pastels felt fresh and young, and worked well paired with black, white and navy.
Overall Phillip Lim delivered a lustworthy collection consisting of lots of wearable pieces with that “something special” – just the way I like it!
